Daily Inspiration: Meet Sung Yoo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sung Yoo

Hi Sung, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hello. I’m a Creative Director for real estate development and founder of Big Little Universe. Art and design have been an inherent part of life since childhood. I attended a fine arts high school then attended college in New York and earned a BFA from Parsons School of Design. I developed most of my technical skills working in corporate environments. I initially worked in the beauty industry then diversified my business skills through various projects and experiences throughout the years.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There’s always challenges but embracing curiosity and committing to ongoing learning is essential to worthy accomplishments. Lessons and growth can be a jagged process but having the perspective to recognize challenges as incredible opportunities is extremely valuable in progress.

I’ve also learned that keeping a consistent discipline for your mind and body to be in a state of ease is critical for high performance. It creates space to focus on an open and positive mindset, which always opens new paths and opportunities to express more of your truth while helping others.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m very grateful to pursue my love as a career. Creative direction and design are my means of expression and problem-solving. My work integrates mindfulness, holistic design, feng shui, and the ethos of essentialism. Mind and body, thoughts and environment are critical to well-being and I am committed to creating spaces that alleviate tension and enhance quality of life. My mission is to help as many people as possible by providing access to thoughtfully designed spaces that promote well-being and encourage positive lifestyle practices and I’m honored to have the opportunity to build and create.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
As a child, I was introverted but introspective. I was known for my competitive spirit and strong determination. I enjoyed competition – it was a source of motivation and I’d easily spend hours on creative activities: drawing, painting, making books and building things. I also enjoyed noticing tiny details and meticulously organizing objects. As an adult, I’m an introverted extrovert. I have a better awareness of the balance I need to recharge. I’ve always loved learning new skills, competitive sports, anything art and design – that hasn’t changed at all. It’s truly a gift and incredibly fulfilling to continue pursuing creativity as a career. I am deeply grateful and feel blessed to be here.
